There are many reasons that we may need to monitor chemicals. One major reason is the need to monitor harmful contaminants in our environment - water, soil and the air. This is because many chemicals can be harmful or even toxic to us and to the environment. Some examples of harmful chemicals in our environment include lead, arsenic, oxides of nitrogen and even ozone. Another reason to monitor is found in chemical production. Many of these processes require specific conditions in order to be efficient. The Haber Process produces ammonia and this process must be monitored closely for pressure and temperature in order to produce ammonia in an economical way. This unit is all about how and why we need to monitor and manage our chemical world. Links
